At lunchtime when our children line up to make the short walk across to the gardens of Charterhouse Square, members of the public often remark that we must have a surprising amount of space inside the school building.
It’s something that parents notice too when they first come to see the school. Our bright, airy rooms extend much further back than they expect, and we enjoy the run of seven separate storeys across two interconnecting buildings.
This means, for example, that our Green and Red Room children have access not only to two large classrooms but also to a third Art Room, and we have even managed to incorporate a small outdoor play area in the classroom used by our youngest children.
Elsewhere in the school, you can find various spaces set aside for purposes beyond the classroom. We have a popular library, for example, a versatile school hall and a dedicated space for our Special Educational Needs team. We also boast a purpose-built school office and meeting room right next to the main entrance, which means that the Headmistress and the rest of the leadership team are always on hand for parents and pupils alike.
Most recently we have added a superb ICT Suite, equipped with an impressive array of Apple Mac computers and associated technology. Our Red, Yellow and Blue classes all make use of this facility with their classroom teachers, while our older children receive specialist lessons from our dedicated ICT teacher.
Beyond the school building, our central location also allows us to make use of excellent nearby facilities – including the swimming pool, tennis courts and gymnasium at Golden Lane Leisure Centre, the astro-turf pitches at Coram’s Fields, and of course the garden in Charterhouse Square itself.

The school has dreamt of acquiring additional space for many years as there are many ways we wish to enhance the provision that we provide. We’ve now been lucky enough to secure that space having recently acquired the upper floors of 38-39 and the rest of the terrace 31-37 Charterhouse Square.
Our construction and design team have already started work, 38-39 will be incorporated into the existing school building in time for September 2021 with 31-37 following in 2022.
Once completed the new space will provide new classrooms, dedicated indoor play areas, a dining room area serving hot lunches, a creative learning space for science and craft lessons, music rooms and areas fully resourced for special educational needs, including a mindfulness room.
One of the highlights of the new space will be the learning deck on the roof which will allow for many more outdoor sessions and indeed our very own gardening club.
To help our parents manage their busy work schedule we will also be offering before and after school care to our Nursery and Reception children from September 2021 and to our Year 1 – 6 children from September 2022 once our new building is complete.
