Our Green Room is designed to make learning as fun as possible for our youngest children. Every activity is planned so that the girls and boys can try things out for themselves, exploring and developing their capabilities along the way.

Our emphasis is on making the children – and their parents – feel comfortable and secure. When we open the doors in the morning, for example, we ensure there are always fun activities on offer and teachers on hand to make drop-off as smooth as possible. We also employ a ‘buddy’ system, pairing each boy and girl with a child from the Star classroom so that our new children quickly feel part of the wider school community.

In the classroom we assign a ‘link teacher’ to each child, who acts as a direct point of contact between school and home, and who offers a comforting continuity of care for the child. First thing every morning, for example, your child will work one-to-one with their link teacher practising letter sounds, blending, word recognition or sharing a book.

Later in the morning there are literacy and maths activities in which the children work in small groups with a teacher to complete their individual tasks. And in the afternoon, we tend to focus on topic work with lots of engaging activities to choose from around the classroom. A quick phonics recap at the end of the day and it’s time for pick-up.

We believe that our regular routine helps children to feel secure and settle quickly into school life.
