Letter to Parents - April 2012

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to the final term!  We hope you all had a marvellous Easter break.  Here is your third letter, which will give you an outline of what the children can expect from us this term.  Can it really be the last term already?

PE

The Kites and Balloons will continue to follow an active sporting curriculum

Monday: PE at Golden Lane ( 9:00-10:00am)
Tuesday:  Swimming at Golden Lane (9:00 – 10:30 am)
Wednesday: Sports at Coram’s Fields (1:30-3:30pm)
Friday: Tennis with Pete will continue as normal, at Golden Lane (Balloons 9:15 – 10:30, Kites (11:00 -12.15pm)

Your child is expected to swim, if in school.    It also now a requirement that all the children wear swimming hats.  If for any reason your child is unable to attend swimming or participate in any other sporting activity, but can still attend school, we would appreciate a note for our records.

Please remember to provide tennis rackets for your children for the lesson on Friday.

During the summer term we would like the children to come to school in tennis whites on a Friday, but this is not obligatory .

Reading

The children are still required to read a book a week. Book - changing day will continue to be on a Thursday for Balloons and Friday for Kites, so the children will have until the following week to complete the book. We do expect these books to be read within seven days, unless an extension has been agreed by me.   Please ensure the reading record book is updated daily and along with their current reading book, kept in the homework folder.

Humanities and Science

Here are the topics the Kites and Balloons and will be covering this term.

Geography:  Deserts.  The children will be learning fascinating facts about when and how they were formed and where they can be found.  They will be studying what evidence of life can be found in these harsh habitats.

History:  World War 1.  A powerful and thought provoking subject this term.  The children will learn about the causes, various battles, the alliances and the Treaty of Versailles, weapons and trench warfare. They will be asked to produce a project after half term on an air or sea battle of their choice.  We will be visiting the National Army Museum in Chelsea, date to be announced soon.

Science:  Keeping healthy.  The children will be exploring topics such as the affects of exercise, a balanced diet, medicines, diseases and injuries, food groups and harmful drugs.

We are both looking forward to what promises to be a busy and eventful final term.  Please remember that we are always available, should you wish to discuss any issues.

Thank you for your continued support.
