Letter to Parents - April 2012
Dear Parents,
Welcome back to you all! I hope that you all had a fun and relaxing holiday and that the children are raring to go for the summer term. With Sports Day, Olympics week, our trip to Epping Forest as well as the Raindrops’ performance of “Blast Off!” to look forward to, this term promises to be busy and full of fun and exciting challenges.
The Raindrops will be swimming on Friday mornings, doing sport as usual on Wednesday afternoons as well as P.E. at Golden Lane on Thursday afternoons. Therefore, please make sure that your child is wearing appropriate clothes and footwear on Wednesdays and Thursdays, as well as bringing in their swimming things for Friday mornings. Swimming hats are essential for both girls and boys. It would also be helpful if the girls could avoid wearing tights on swimming days. If your child is unable to take part for any reason, a note from home is required.
The topics this term are as follows:-
Science
This term Raindrops will be exploring different types of habitats, delving into the undergrowth and looking at how ecosystems work around the globe. As part of our science topic this term we will be going on a trip to Epping Forest to learn about habitats and life cycles which will include activities such as investigating forest plants, collecting mini beasts and pond dipping!
Geography
We will learn to identify the Continents and Oceans of the world, going on a fact finding mission to investigate more about global differences in geographical features, cultures, geographical features, and flora and fauna.
History
This term we will be learning about Tudors, an era of change and triumph, spanning from Henry VIII's Reformation to Elizabeth and the Armada. We hope that our recent trip to “The Terrible Tudors” will have ignited their imagination and enthusiasm for this topic.
Homework
As you are well aware, homework is an extremely important tool in supporting the children’s learning and we are grateful for your valuable support. Please remember to update the homework diary on a daily basis and please feel free to use it as a way of informing me of anything at all you feel necessary, whether homework related or not.
Thank you for your continued support,
Julia
