Letter to Parents

SUMMER TERM IN THE THE RAINBOW ROOM!

Dear Parents,

I know I say it every year, but I really can’t quite believe we have reached the final term.  The children have all worked brilliantly throughout the year and have produced some excellent pieces.  The projects in particular, were quite amazing.  Onwards and upwards!  The final term always produces a mixture of feelings for all.  There is much excitement felt by our leavers, as they entertain thoughts of those pastures new, but tinged with this, is the ghastly task of saying goodbye to those staying with us.  These children are often excited too, as they consider life beyond the Rainbow Room and wonder what the Balloon Room will bring.  I enjoy teaching the children in the final term; they are all so different from how they were in the first term, so much more ready for harder challenges, so much more capable.  The final term feels like everything comes together and the children are keen for the next stage of their education.

So here is your final letter from the Rainbow Room for this year!

History

Although the children have enjoyed the previous two topics immensely and threw themselves into the rigours of Tudor and Elizabethan life, our final topic concerning Inventions, has always proved just as popular.  It is a wonderful subject to teach and encourages the children to understand how the seemingly impossible, becomes possible.  The subject allows the children to explore how inventions have developed throughout History and the impact they have had upon the human race and the world.  Children seem to get very excited when they consider their own future and how it may look very different to the present world they occupy.  They will be given the opportunity to discuss this and decide for themselves if all inventions are good inventions.

Geography

Our final topic this term is both popular and very interesting and covers all aspects of the world’s Rainforests.  The children have the opportunity to discover why they are vital, what they contain and why they must be protected.  The children will be asked to produce a final, short project on one of the aspects of this topic after half term.

Science

The final term covers two topics. Until half term, the children will learn about Friction, what it is and how it affects the world around us.  Our final topic will concentrate on Growth and the Human Body.  The children have always enjoyed this final topic, learning some amazing facts about how we develop and function.

Literacy

Our Literacy syllabus will continue to the end of the Literacy World scheme, so this final term will cover poetry and its different forms, advertising, structuring reports and discussions, character building for stories, letter writing and other persuasive writing styles.

  • Spelling tests continue to be every Friday morning.
  • We continue to swim on a Friday morning.  Girls are required to wear swimming hats and children can bring goggles.
  • All children are required to wear suitable clothing and shoes for PE lessons on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Trainers are perfect.

Please continue to send any correspondence to me in the homework diaries and continue to sign them each night to record the page of the book reached by the children and mark each page of homework completed.

The final term is usually so busy, but lots of fun.  I am always very sad to say farewell to the class in July.  I have watched the children grow and develop throughout the year, am always amazed by what they can do and achieve and feel immensely proud.  I learn from them as much as I hope they learn from me.  I am excited for them too; by the end of the year they have almost “outgrown” their class and are so completely ready for the next stage of their educational journey.

Thank you for all your support and encouragement throughout the year. I look forward to seeing you on Open Day in July.

Kind Regards

Rebecca

  • Thumbs up for our outstanding school!
