Letter to Parents

What's happening in the Yellow Room?

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year to one and all!

This letter is to just inform you of the exciting things we will be covering in our Humanities topics during Spring 2010.  As per last term, we would be very grateful if you could kindly send in any information, artefacts, posters and books you may have to contribute to our lessons.

History

Homes in the Past.  We shall be learning about how homes in the Victorian/Edwardian period are different to modern homes.  Children will be looking at real artefacts from the past and using their knowldge of modern objects to determine their uses.

Vikings. We will be learning how Vikings settled down in Britain and how they invaded our shores.

Science

Electricity.  In this topic the children will learn how things work using electricity.  How some appliances use light, heat, movement or sound.  There will also be a emphasis on electrical safety.

Plants & Animals. We shall be learning about a wide range of plants and animals in our locality.  Chldren will also learn about the life cycle of certain plants and animals, with an emphasis on what is required for plants to grow and for animals to reproduce.  We will also be developing our scientific skills, specifically recording information and making relevant observations.

Geography

Where in the World is Barnaby Bear?  With the help of Barnaby Bear, the children will be exploring the world around them.   The children will be learning about various countries such as France, Spain, Portugal, New Zealand, South Arica, USA, Japan and India, focusing on clothes, food and landmarks.

Please bring in your contributions clearly labelled with you child's name if you would like them to be returned to you at the end of the term.

Other information that you may find useful:

  • Spelling tests still take place every Friday morning.
  • We swim on a Wednesday morning.  Long hair should be tied back.  Children with medium to long hair are required to wear swimming hats. Armbands are not required as they are provided at the pool. Please make sure all kit is named.
  • All children are required to wear suitable clothing and shoes for our P.E lessons (Tuesdays and Thursdays).  Trainers or plimsolls are perfect!

Homework diaries are used as a form of communication for parents, so please feel free to inform us of any necessary information or ask any questions you may have.

Thank you for you support,
