Barbican Bunker

Robert Kusmirowski’s ‘Bunker’

On Friday 8th Jan, The Star Room went to visit the Barbican Art Gallery to see the WW2 bunker installed by artist Robert Kusmirowski. It included derelict industrial equipment, corroded pipes and boilers, rusted generators, electrical gauges and other obsolete machines - as well as old cans, foodstuffs and survival supplies. On entering this dimly lit space through a set of heavy, rusted doors, the viewer is forced to negotiate a precarious bridge leading to a set of stairs that descends into the concrete bunker.
Children were free to explore the space and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
